Cataract Surgery Details

Cataract surgery is typically a quick, painless, outpatient procedure and generally lasts 20 – 30 minutes.

  • Surgery is performed on one eye at a time with about two weeks between procedures.
  • You are awake, but you will have light IV anesthesia and typically will not feel any pain.
  • A small incision is made. Usually, no sutures are required.
  • You will need a driver on the day of and the day after your surgery. You will need someone to remain at the surgery center with you.
  • Recovery is quick; you are back to most activities within one day to one week but will need to use your prescription drops as prescribed.
  • Keep all of your post-op appointments and call us with any questions or concerns.
  • Your eye is usually stable within 3 – 6 weeks, at which time glasses or contact lenses could be prescribed.
