LATISSE® solution is a prescription treatment for hypotrichosis used to grow eyelashes, making them longer, thicker and darker. Eyelash hypotrichosis is another name for having inadequate or not enough eyelashes.

As a prescribed drug, a consultation with one of our physicians is indicated before purchasing LATISSE®. Dr. Shawn Parker is available at our Cape Girardeau and Marion locations. Please call 573.335.3577 or 800.455.3937 to schedule a complimentary consultation. Dr. Brad Stuckenschneider is available at our Poplar Bluff or Piedmont locations. Please call 573.686.5579 to schedule a consultation.

How LATISSE® Works

LATISSE Results Timeline

LATISSE® works from the inside out. As the treatment progresses, patients first begin to see changes in lash length. Gradually, by week 8 of use, lashes are thicker and darker. Full benefits of LATISSE® are noticed after week 16. After full effects are reached and the patient is satisfied with lash appearance, use may be reduced to a maintenance schedule.

A maintenance schedule could be a couple times a week, every other day, or as often as the patient feels is needed to maintain the appearance they desire. If you stop using LATISSE®, lashes reduce back to their original length, thickness, and fullness.

LATISSE® is conveniently available at Eye Care Specialists offices. After a quick eyelid assessment by Dr. Parker or Dr. Stuckenschneider, if you are a candidate for LATISSE® you can purchase it at our office the same day as your exam. LATISSE® consultations are free of charge. Call 800.325.3937 to schedule an appointment at Cape Girardeau, Marion, or Carbondale or 573.686.5579 for an appointment in Poplar Bluff or Piedmont.

LATISSE® Application

LATISSE Application

LATISSE® should be used on freshly cleansed eyelids free of any eye makeup and prior to application of any skin care products. Keep the applicator sterile by never touching the brush end of the applicator or allowing the applicator to come in contact with the bottle. Place one drop of LATISSE® solution on the brush-end of the applicator.

LATISSE Application

Once the drop is on the applicator, sweep the brush along the base of the lash line where the lashes meet the skin starting from the inner eye to the outer corner of the eye. Blot away any excess solution. Use a sterile applicator for each use. DO NOT apply the product on the lower lashes. The lower lashes will still benefit from the product from the application on the upper eyelid.

How long does it take to see results?

Typically you will see growth at 8 weeks, significant growth and added fullness at 12 weeks and full results at 16 weeks.

How affordable is LATISSE®?

One bottle of LATISSE® is $120.00. Since it typically takes 8 weeks to begin to see results, patients may purchase two kits for $220.00 at Eye Care Specialists.

What are the potential side effects from using LATISSE®?

The most common side effect of using LATISSE® is an itching sensation in the eyes and/or eye redness. These were reported in approximately 4% of patients.

Other less common side effects typically occur on the skin close to where LATISSE® is applied, or in the eyes. These include eyelid skin darkening, eye irritation, dryness of the eyes, and redness of the eyelids.

Could LATISSE® change the color of my eyes?

Increased brown iris pigmentation has occurred when the same formulation of bimatoprost ophthalmic solution was instilled directly into the eye to treat elevated intraocular pressure. Although iris pigmentation was not reported in clinical studies with LATISSE®, patients should be advised about the potential for increased brown iris pigmentation which is likely permanent.

Is LATISSE® an eye drop?

LATISSE® solution comes in a bottle similar to an eye drop, however, it is applied topically, along the skin of the upper eyelashes, with a specially designed applicator. It is not intended for use in the eyes, but if some solution gets into your eye, you do not need to rinse it

If I apply more LATISSE®, will I get faster results?

No. LATISSE® works gradually over the 16-week treatment period. Use of LATISSE® more than once a day will not increase the growth of eyelashes. Please follow the directions, as instructed by your doctor.

Since LATISSE® is fairly new, should I wait to use it?

LATISSE® received its FDA approval in December 2008, after a team of 16 experienced doctors from all over the country conducted clinical studies. LATISSE® is from Allergan, a specialty pharmaceutical company. Approximately 1.5 million kits of LATISSE® have been sold.

Will LATISSE® darken my eye lids?

Skin hyperpigmention (or skin darkening) is a less common side effect, which typically occurs close to where the solution is applied on the skin. This is due to an increase of melanin in the skin. The pigmentation is expected to increase as long as bimatoprost is administered, but has been reported to be reversible in most patients upon discontinuation of bimatoprost.

Can LATISSE® harm my eyesight?

LATISSE® is an ophthalmic solution. If any solution gets into the eye, it is not expected to cause harm. You do not need to rinse your eyes. LATISSE® is not an eye drop. DO NOT APPLY in your eye or to the lower lid.

How is LATISSE® different from over-the-counter products for lash growth?

LATISSE® is the first and only FDA-approved prescription treatment for inadequate or not enough lashes, growing them longer, fuller and darker.

Is LATISSE® a replacement for mascara?

No. LATISSE® does not work in place of mascara. LATISSE® is a solution treatment for inadequate or not enough lashes and requires a prescription from a doctor. However, mascara can be used on your eyelashes in addition to LATISSE®.

Do I need to refill my LATISSE® prescription every month?

To achieve the full effect of LATISSE® — longer, fuller, darker lashes — you will need to use the product daily for 16 weeks. Many of our LATISSE patients find they get 1-2 months daily use from their LATISSE®. However, once you reach the desired effect, you may choose to go to a maintenance using LATISSE® every 1-2 days.

What happens if I stop using LATISSE®?

If you stop using LATISSE®, your eyelashes are expected to return to their previous appearance over several weeks to months.
