David J. Westrich, MD, FACS
Dr. Westrich was the first retinal specialist to offer treatment for diseases of the retina in his hometown of Cape Girardeau, Missouri in 1989. In 1991, he founded Cape Retinal Surgery Center, now called Eye Care Specialists, to encompass the multi-specialty facility and services we offer today.
After graduating Valedictorian of his 1980 Southeast Missouri State University class, Dr. Westrich graduated Magna Cum Laude from St. Louis University School of Medicine where he was also a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He performed his internship, at St. Louis University School of Medicine, and subsequently completed his residency and fellowship training in Vitreoretinal surgery at Vanderbilt University where he served as Chief Resident. Dr. Westrich is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and holds membership in the American Society of Retina Specialists which is a distinguished group of the foremost retinal specialists in the United States.
Dr. Westrich, widely recognized as a leader in the field of retinal disease, maintains status as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and is a member of the the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO).
In his leisure hours, Dr. Westrich enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, and his daughter-in-law. His passions of farming and hunting occupy his time outside of the office.
