Tatyana I. Metelitsina, MD
Dr. Metelitsina joined Eye Care Specialists in 2014 to help fill our growing need for an additional vitreoretinal surgeon. Prior to relocating to the United States, Dr. Metelitsina graduated with honors from the Odessa State Medical University in Odessa, Ukraine before completing an ophthalmology residency at the Filatov Institute of Eye Diseases and Tissue Therapy.
In 2000, Dr. Metelitsina moved to the United States to pursue additional ophthalmic training. She studied The State of Choroidal Blood Flow in AMD (age-related macular degeneration) as a postdoctoral fellow / senior research investigator at the Scheie Eye Institute at the University of Pennsylvania. She authored and coauthored numerous research articles in professional journals and presented her work at The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) and other ophthalmologic conferences. After conducting her second ophthalmology residency at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York, Dr. Metelitsina completed her fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery at Retina Consultants, LTD in Chicago area. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO).
Dr. Metelitsina resides in Cape Girardeau with her husband Sasha Bogdanovich, M.D., Ph.D. and their son. She is fluent in English and Ukrainian. In her spare time she enjoys ballet, classical music, art, literature, and traveling.
